Jodie Blaney Contemporary Art

Children's Gallery

I've always been interested in how children approach art. They just choose the shapes, colours and materials they like and they go for it!  The art children create from just trying out different materials and techniques is one of the greatest joys for both the young artist and the adult helping them.

Here are some examples of my son's and his friends' work, as well as some creations from my children's classes.

Octopus Dream from Sam's Book

(Above) My son likes trying "mixed media" by combining paints, markers, stamping methods and collage. Last year we tried something new together. We created a book by first creating plasticine characters, put them in a "shoebox scene" then used a digital camera to create our "pages". (My husband Jeff works for a children's book publisher so we had lots of inspiration!) We posted our new book,  "Octopus Dream" on Youtube.
